The formation of the Clan

There came a Kobold named Zitro—a wanderer, sharp of eye and steady of claw.

Zitro arrived in Norune as an adventurer, seeking purpose in the guilds and factions of tallfolk. Yet, none saw worth in his scaled hands. Scrolls of contract were closed to him; halls of power gave no ear.

Instead, his eyes turned not to gold, but to kin.

Across Norune’s edges and forgotten shadows, he found other Kobolds. Not proud, not united—scatteredhunted, and afraid. Some lived in old barrels. Some ran from bootheels. Some forgot the sound of their own kind.

Zitro did not seek to lead them through fear or title. He gathered them with fire and care.

The first to join him were Taskit, a sharp wit, and Jinx, his winged brother. Together, the trio sparked what would become the first embers of the clan.

Zitro rejected the ancient names of power—he refused Wyrmshroud, he spurned Clawmaster. Instead, he founded the Scalecounsel: a circle of equals, where only those of wisdom—not might—would guide the kin.

By sacred pact, only when four Scalecounsel had gathered would they choose a Hearthspeaker, one to keep the flame of unity lit, not rule it.

Thus was born the Duulo Kol“Free Kin”—a clan not built on conquest, but sanctuary. Any creature, scaled or no, who sought peace, safety, and purpose could stand in the firelight of Duulo Kol.

So it is told. So it is remembered.

Social Structure

Hearthkeeper (1)- Chosen leader, caretaker of the clan’s heart Elected from the Scalecounsel. Mediates disputes, calls councils, and speaks for the clan.

Hearthspeaker (1) – Most powerful magic user in the clan, second to the Hearthkeeper. Earned through vision, survival, and service to the Clan. Appointed by the Hearthkeeper, may be challenged by other magic users for the position.

Scalecounsel (4) – Council of respected kobolds Usually 4 to 8 members (Currently 4), chosen for their wisdom, not strength. Includes warriors, scouts, builders, bards, any Kobold of wisdom.

Whisperfang – Spies and messengers. Experts in diplomacy, trickery, and slipping between factions. Help the clan avoid war and broker peace. Embervoice – The voice that carries warmth, fire, and force wrapped in charm. The designated Whisperfang Diplomats. Smokeclaw – The warriors who strike without warning and vanish like smoke. The designated Warriors of the clan.

Earthspeaker – Lorekeepers & protectors of sacred stories and maintainers of the tunnels. Spiritual leaders, drawing from ancestral wisdom. Eggwatchers—primary protectors and caretakers of the clutch—singing low, humming tones said to calm the unhatched. Among them dwell the clan’s mages and shamans, those who wield earth, memory, and spirit as magic. These spellcasters do not pursue power for dominance, but instead guide, protect, and preserve the soul of the clan through ritual, wardcraft, ancestral invocation, and sacred flame.

Sky-Freed – Winged Kobolds. Treated with deep respect—not as superior, but as symbols of personal freedom. Often serve as scouts and wanderers, rarely settling.

Emberhand – Trades Kobolds. Loose but respected group of Alchemists, Herb-workers, and other crafters & artesian.

Sune – Non Kobold friends of Duulo Kol.
