Preamble

Land of Norune is created to bring an atmosphere of roleplaying, gaming, fun, & comradery amongst its players. The owner and staff are pleased to serve this community of players to bring forth excellent experience in a text with limited HUD roleplay adventure in this themed region.

1. Purpose

1.1 The purpose of the Rules & Code of Conduct is to outline a code of conduct for all within Norune.

1.1.1 “Norune” shall be defined as any sim or region on Second Life, any Second Life Group, any discord channel, and/or any site being operated by staff of the Norune community for the purpose of the operations/advertising the Norune sim or associated services.

1.1.2 No third party shall reproduce in whole or in part the contents of any documentation from the Norune sim, discord, or affiliated sites without the express written permission of Darke Feng in accordance with appropriate copyright laws.

1.2 This Code of Conduct is a “living” document and is subject to change at will and with minimal notice.

1.2.1 Minimal notice can be within 1-24 hours.

1.2.2 Formal notice of changes by admins or the owner will be brought to the public forum with internal discussion amongst admin staff only.

2. Responsibilities

2.1 It is the responsibility of players and staff to read and understand these rules thoroughly.

2.1.1 Players are to report complaints/commendations to staff via ticket system located in Discord, a notecard dropped in the admin inventory box at the OOC Welcome Pad in region, or in the admin-help channel in Discord.

2.1.1a False reporting, as determined by provided evidence in the complaint, may in and of itself, be a rules violation which could result in demerits or other consequences. False reports are to include: Baseless claims where no evidence is provided. Claims in which doctored evidence is provided, or claims in which provided evidence is supplied by a third party (Such as supplying a log from another player as your own).

2.1.2 Players placing any Staff (admin, mod, etc) whatsoever on an “Ignore” or “Blocked” status are unable to receive communications regarding violations, warnings, or necessary communication regarding sim activity.

2.1.2a They accept the consequences by choosing to ignore staff, up to and including all maximum punishments defined in section 3.

2.1.2b Appeals are denied immediately based on players having used “ignore” or “block” to refuse communications with staff in the discharge of their duty.

2.2 Players are expected to adhere not only to the letter of the rules and code of conduct as written, but the spirit in which the rules and code are intended as well, even if not detailed specifically. This applies to all supplementary rules documents as well, which can be found on the Master Rules List.

2.3 The rules are intended for the protection of peace and stability in the sim and discord. Attempting to weaponize the rules against another player may in and of itself become a violation.

2.4 It is the responsibility of admins to ensure uniformity in understanding and compliance with the rules of Norune.

2.5 It is the responsibility of the owner to ensure admins understand the Rules and Code of Conduct prior to the establishment of position.

2.6 It is the responsibility of the administrative staff to ensure all other staff understand the Rules and Code of Conduct prior to the establishment of position, and update them when changes are made.

2.7 Conflict of Interest Policy

The goal of this policy is to create a clear and fair framework that manages potential conflicts of interest without creating an unnecessary barrier to community participation or administrative efficiency. The distinctions between factions and guilds when it comes to this policy, as well as a ruling on when player loyalty or personal connections or relationships are herein intended to protect the integrity of the staff team and well-being of the Norune sim.

2.7.1 The Norune Staff team is committed to maintaining a fair, impartial, and transparent environment for all members of our community. This policy is designed to address and manage any real or perceived conflicts of interest that may arise, particularly those involving staff members who also hold leadership roles within in-character (IC) Factions, Guilds, or Groups.

A conflict of interest exists when a staff member’s personal interests, duties, or relationships could be perceived as influencing, or do influence, their ability to make an impartial decision in their official capacity. Our goal is to ensure all administrative and moderation decisions are made solely on the basis of what is best for the entire sim and its community.

2.7.2 Policy Scope: This policy applies to all official staff members of the Norune Discord and Second Life sim, including admins, moderators, lorekeepers, faction leaders, as well as any other staff role. Darke Feng is the one exception as the sim owner, he will make efforts not to allow bias, but as the ultimate decision maker in the sim, all escalations of issues that surpass the admin level are decided by Darke.

2.7.3 Factions and Guild Leadership Roles

2.7.3a Faction Leaders have official recognition as staff members of the sim. Running larger groups who have some regional influence, they have some say in the development of lore surrounding their group. As staff, Faction Leaders are expected to behave as official representatives of Norune and participate in staff-related activities when necessary. This includes the mediation of disputes between their own group members when possible prior to escalating those issues to the Moderators if they cannot be resolved by the Faction Leader.

2.7.3b Guild Leaders are not officially staff members of the sim. This is to ensure guilds can more easily be approved and allow for a greater diversity of groups within the sim. Once obtaining enough influence and memberbase within the sim, Guilds can apply to become factions, but as we limit the number of factions based on available locale and Lore influence, these approvals only happen rarely. While not staff, Guild Leaders are expected to attempt to mediate disputes between their own guild members prior to reaching out to Moderators, if possible.

2.7.4 Procedures for identifying and managing conflicts of interest

Staff members must actively identify and disclose any potential conflicts of interest before making a decision or acting on an issue. This disclosure must happen in the associated staff channels, requesting another staff member to take over mediation of the issue.

2.7.5 Conflict of Interest in Factions or Guilds

2.7.5a A conflict of interest is presumed automatically when a staff member holds a leadership role (Leader or Officer) within a Faction or Guild that is involved in a dispute with an external individual or group. This conflict does not exist if the dispute is between two or more members of the same faction as the staff member, only when someone outside the faction is involved.

2.7.5b Recusal Requirement: Staff members must recuse themselves from any administrative or moderation decision direction involving a faction they hold a leadership or officer role in. This is to ensure impartiality in decision making. Upon recusal, they will request through appropriate staff channels for a different moderator or administrator to step in. This is to be a general request and whomever is available to respond will take it. The staff member who is activating the recusal does not get to choose who will oversee the case.

2.7.5c Acute Conflicts: Staff members are not required to recuse themselves just because they are part of a faction or guild. Only if their role in that organization is a leadership role. However, they must step aside where any decision being made would determine a direct outcome of a faction/guild vs faction/guild dispute. This is to ensure that decisions being made are based on the merits of the case and not on factional loyalty.

2.7.6 Loyalty to Player causing Misfortune and/or Hindrance

2.7.6a A staff member is in a conflict of interest if their loyalty aligns with players or groups whose actions are perceived by staff as a majority to be detrimental to the sim or its community. This includes but is not limited to actions that hinder staff resolutions or create ongoing misfortune for the community. The staff member must recuse themselves from any decision-making process involving these individuals or groups.

2.7.6b Examples of such Loyalty are cases in which the staff member has a personal relationship, whether plutonic or romantic, with another individual and that relationship interferes with their ability to rationally examine a case based on its merits. This is most important when dealing with known entities such as players or groups who have been known to be disruptive to the sim.

2.8 If a rule requires interpretation or no rule exists in documentation, discretion shall remain with the moderator or admin overseeing the issue. In such cases, an admin may be requested to make a situational judgement call to back a moderator or another admin. When such rulings are made, they are to be considered binding until such time as they are released or a rules update replaces the judgement.

2.8.1 Staff shall report such judgement calls in appropriate staff channels so that they may be recorded for review.

3. Punishment for Violations

3.1 This region will function under a demerit (points-based) system for minor offenses. More serious cases as determined by administration, may be resolved outside the demerit system.

3.2 Demerits will increase and may vary depending on the severity of the infraction found.

3.3 They will be applied by admin only and will be removed by multiple admin approval.

3.3.1 At least two (2) admin approvals will be required to bring forth an appeal.

3.4 In extreme cases, Darke Feng may override admin in decisions (but do not count on it, because that is their job—to enforce these rules).

3.5 Demerits may typically be given in 1 to 3-point intervals, up to a maximum of fifteen (15).

3.5.1 At 5 demerits, a player may be given a 24–48-hour ban placed on them, and corrective action will be sent in writing within seven (7) days of violation.

3.5.2 At 10 demerits, a player will have a 48–96-hour ban placed on them.

3.5.3 At 15 demerits, a player’s status will be considered for termination, a minimum of one (1) week ban will be placed on the player, and a last chance notice may be issued.

3.5.3a Last chance notices are a last resort to allow players their “last chance” with corrective action and a mentor placed with the player.

3.5.3b Mentors may be any person admin staff deem within reason to assist players with arising issues.

3.6 Expulsion/Ban: A player not given last chance notice and having received at least two (2) corrective action notices will receive a minimum of a three (3) month ban from Norune estate.

3.7 Players may apply in writing to admin staff to be reinstated after half of the length of the ban duration has passed, and all corrective action plans have been met.

3.8 Administrator and Staff Corrective action will be in a tiered system.

3.8.1 This will be administered in order as follows at the discretion of owner/board of admin staff acting on behalf of the owner:

a) verbal warning

b) written warning

c) temporary revocation of position with a last chance notice issued

d) permanent removal from position

3.9 Filing an erroneous, false, or baseless ticket against another individual may result in demerits issued as detailed above.

3.9.1 All arbitration tickets should include any and all listed offenders, along with their offense.

3.9.2 Any accusation made in a ticket should be supported by logs and/or screenshots of the offense. These should be included in the ticket.

3.9.3 Taking gripes about an incident or the arbitration of that incident into a public channel is not advised as it may run afoul of harassment rules which could result in punishment for the one griping.

3.10 When filing a report, use the ticket system via the discord, or make a request in the general group channel along the lines of: “Staff request for dispute resolution” the exact wording doesn’t need to match, but please refrain from including details of the complaint in the general chat. Do not reach out to a particular staff member directly unless one of the following is true:

3.10.1 If the complaint involves a non-admin staff member, you may reach out to an admin, who will, when they are prepared to assist, have you create a ticket on the discord and immediately escalate it so that an admin, who may be themselves or another admin, may assist.

3.10.2 If the complaint involves an admin, you will reach out to Darke Feng directly and he will handle the ticket from there. Be sure to clearly state what the complaint is and have your supporting evidence ready to provide to Darke at his request.

3.10.3 If a particular admin has control over a situation and has directed that all complaints arising from that situation will be coming through them, you will reach out to that admin. This will be extremely rare and typically involve large scale issues where a particular admin has been handling all evidentiary collection and review, interviews, etc…

4. Linden Labs Terms of Service

4.1 Linden Labs, developer of Second Life, have Terms of service that all users of the platform must agree to prior to its usage.

4.2 Norune staff and its players will adhere to those Terms of Service while in the region or under official representation for the group, policies which are found at: https://lindenlab.com/legal/second-life-terms-and-conditions

5. Land of Norune Rules

5.1 Avatar Appearance Policy

To preserve immersion, cohesion, and community safety, all avatars in Norune must adhere to the following standards:

5.1.1 Age Restrictions: Players in Norune will not function as or apply any underaged, minor, or adolescent avatars in adult scenarios. All avatars in sim must appear to be adults (18+ or equivalent for the fantasy race) in proportions and styling. Underaged, minor, and adolescent avatars are those stated by the player or deemed to appear as such by multiple admin staff.

5.1.1a Avatars matching this description will be undersized, underdeveloped, & unmatured. (i.e., small avatars with larger heads; flat to no chest on girls, undeveloped muscles on boys), child, adolescent, or lolita-style avatars are strictly prohibited, even when clothed modestly.

5.1.1b A maximum of five (5) points and a warning may be given on first instance, bypassing the limit set in section 3.5, presuming the avatar is questionable but not obvious. Obvious minor avatars may be banned immediately per Linden Labs regulations on the issue

5.1.2 Avatar Style and Visual Realism: All avatars must resemble reasonably realistic fantasy creatures and be therein realistically proportioned, grounded in a medieval high fantasy world.

5.1.2a Examples of allowed races/species: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs, Fae, Spirits, Anthropomorphic avatars that meet a grounded visual manner. Fantasy creatures like Dragons, Gryphons, and other non-humanoid avatars that again meet a grounded visual standard.

5.1.2b Examples of prohibited avatars: Cartoonish, cell-shaded, or hyperstylized avatars. (e.g.: Massive eyes, balloon breasts, chibi bodies) Avatars that appear 2D in nature, flat-shaded, or which utilize a comic-style of texturing. Also avatars based on copyrighted franchises known characters (e.g.: Gandalf, anime protagonists, marvel heroes, etc…)

5.1.3 Technological and Temporal Consistency: All weapons, clothing, accessories, and architecture must be visually appropriate to a pre-to-early 1600 CE fantasy world. This is to preserve the coherence of our setting.

5.1.3a Allowed firearms and weapons include Matchlock and Flintlock styled firearms, weaponry from earlier periods or fantasy styling.

5.1.3b Prohibited elements include Modern fabrics, plastics, sunglasses or other modern accessories, tactical armor, industrial age elements, modern, sci-fi, steampunk, or cyberpunk styles. More modern weapons/firearms are also not permitted, nor are magitech weapons which simulate the behaviors of these more modern examples.

5.1.4 Sexual Content and Proportions: To ensure a positive and respectful user experience, this is a role-playing sim, not a fetish sim. While adult-oriented content may occur, please keep the following in mind for avatars.

5.1.4a Genitals must be in proportion to the avatar’s body size.

5.1.4b Avatars that are permanently erect or dripping in public spaces are strictly prohibited.

5.1.5 Final Discretion: Sim Moderators, Admins, and the Owner retain the right to request appearance changes or removal if an avatar is deemed inconsistent with Sim standards, even if not explicitly detailed here. Players are encouraged to request a style check from a moderator if they are unsure if their avatar meets the standards.

5.2 Players in Norune will be courteous to one another (applies out of character).

5.2.1 Discourteous behavior OOC on an ongoing basis may blur into harassment as determined below.

5.2.2 In Character Actions equal In Character Consequences. While we adhere to consent rules, using such rules to antagonize players IC then using consent to evade consequences for your actions may constitute a violation of the rules. This may also stretch into a form of Metagaming.

5.3 Players will not engage in metagaming activities.

5.3.1 Metagaming is defined as “the use of information or strategies outside of a game’s core mechanics to gain an advantage or influence gameplay”.

5.3.1a It is considered metagaming when a player enters an area, and that player is swarmed by multiple characters of a faction(s) that were not engaged with one another.

5.3.1b A player may remit metagaming for their own instance, but not for another in the party unless it is a scheduled event with a lore keeper for the purposes of ad populum.

5.3.1c Further examples of Metagaming include using information gleaned prior to having posted one’s presence in a scene, use of non-visual/auditory/scent information gleaned from a titler that your character would not otherwise have access to (if someone has a scent or object worn openly described, that may be used, but their name, rank, guild/faction affiliation, or anything else that could not be discerned through sight/sound/smell may not be)

5.3.2 Players guilty of metagaming will receive a standard number of demerit points as defined in section 3.5.

5.4 Players will not engage in OOC harassment, sexual or otherwise, or in stalking of other players/admin staff for any reason.

5.4.1 Players must address the party prior to admin intervention in this rule. This can be as simple as a statement requesting/insisting the offending individual not contact you anymore.

5.4.1a Admin will not intervene on behalf of a complainant unless they have given proof by 1) firsthand witness or 2) timestamped screenshots

5.4.1b Admin will not intervene on complaints made longer than two weeks from incident, or most recent instances, or where another admin has already intervened.

5.4.1b(2) Admins may go back two weeks prior with any incident each time, such as when a player has been attempting to settle an issue without moderation from staff.

5.4.1c Players will receive the standard demerits upon determination of valid complaints made to appropriate admins. More severe cases as determined by administration may be handled with more weighty penalties.

5.4.2 Ill-speak, rumor-mongering, or bad-mouthing of players, staff, or the sim itself may be construed to be harassment under these rules.

5.5 Players will not grief the region or other players in any manner.

5.5.1 Griefing is defined as “when a player intentionally disrupts and aggravates other players’ enjoyment of a game”.

5.5.2 A player griefing by purposefully keeping high script counts is “soft griefing” and will be warned prior to any demerits being applied.

5.5.2a This warning will be applied by an automatic script monitoring system and should be addressed immediately if it is incorrect in its operation.

5.5.2b Admin warnings serve as verbal notification and may result in demerits being applied at the admin’s discretion.

5.5.3 A player griefing by purposefully placing down or attaching objects that spam noises, rezz objects, or emit particles profusely into space that is not part of the play are considered as “hard griefing”.

5.5.4 A player that is OOC and “heckling” (local or IMs) other players that are attempting to play in a scene is griefing.

5.5.4a Players will make ‘an attempt’ to correct without admin involvement prior to any complaint (unless admin is present to witness), so offending parties may be given proper notice that it has occurred.

5.6 Sexual scenes may be in ‘semi-public’ places. (i.e., If you walk into a bath house, you may see/be entering into a sexual scene)

5.6.1 Sexual scenes should make accommodation to move to IM if possible, or to another physical scene out of chat range should others first occupy their preferred area.

5.6.1a Individuals entering an area with a scene in progress may not make a complaint due to the region operating with a first come-first serve basis.

5.6.2 Forced sexual scenes will require that player’s approval Out of Character and are considered strictly IN CHARACTER ONLY.

5.6.2a Proof of Out of Character consent is not required but encouraged.

5.6.3 Players will not idle in the OOC area without any clothing on, nor wander aimlessly in an ‘aroused’ state where erogenous body parts are erect or actively using a particle effect to convey arousal or evidence of sexual activity.

5.6.3a It is not required to dress to the theme of the sim in the OOC area, but clothing will be worn due to vendors & partner sims resources being present.

5.6.4 Players are in violation of any part of Section 5.6 when an admin staff member has verbally warned at least three (3) times in a 24-hour period.

5.6.5 Players who receive multiple warnings will be given standard demerits as stated in Section 3.5.

5.7 Combat should be performed with the supplied HUD.

5.7.1 The Rules of Engagement Document contains a more detailed breakdown of the rules for combat.

5.7.2 Operations of the HUD or actions taken to bypass its internal anti-cheating measures will be in violation.

5.7.2a Players may receive standard demerits based upon actions found and how they were observed. (i.e., Players will not be punished for coming forward with issues or “unknowns” that locked out their character’s abilities)

5.7.3 Use of other means of resolving combat, such as dice via the HUD or third party system, or freeform roleplay, is permissible in private scenes so long as all players agree in advance but will not be adjudicated by sim staff in the event of conflict. Players will be on their own to resolve such issues. Official events will all use the HUD for combat.

5.8 Spying via script or object placement is prohibited.

5.8.1 Any object that records, transmits, or relays chat is considered spying.

5.8.2 Players may receive double demerits for being found spying on another resident.

5.8.2a Admin staff will notify any individual to cease activity and any intended individual or target of espionage as necessary once all relevant information for complaint is available. (There need not be a complainant if someone is caught spying on another by a third party, but that the complainant may come forward to escalate from first to second tier punishments)

5.9 Misrepresentation of statements by Norune staff & players, or its policies/mission statement is not permitted.

5.9.1 Any player who is caught impersonating or misrepresenting an admin, admin’s alt, or any type of moderation staff will receive demerits.

5.9.1a Impersonation is defined as an act of pretending to be another person for the purpose of entertainment or fraud.

5.9.1b Misrepresentation is defined as the action or offense of giving a false or misleading account of the nature of something.

5.9.2 No admin staff or player will enter Land of Norune into an outside event or contract without express permission by owner/board of administration members.

5.9.2a A board may enter upon approval from the owner and will share logistical & fiscal responsibility until the conclusion of an event or contractual agreement.

5.9.3 Any admin staff acting outside the objective scope of their duties and against the mission statement will receive three (3) warnings prior to corrective action being taken.

6. Renting Infrastructure

6.1 Rental Agreement

6.1.1 All tenants agree that they will abide by the rental rules details here and in the rental agreement document available through the CasperLet vendors in Norune, or provided by rental staff. These rules may be updated as deemed necessary by Norune staff, tenants further agree that continued renting is acceptance of these agreements. Updated copies may be obtained at any time from rental staff.

6.1.1a Prior to rental, be sure of your understanding of these rules, as no refunds will be given! “I did not know” will not result in any refund.

6.1.1b Any prospective tenant must have fewer than fifteen demerits. No rentals will be allowed or offered to those who exceed this limitation.

6.1.2 Prospective tenants can rent LI by interacting with the designated rental box located outside the building. This is done by right-clicking and selecting the ‘Pay’ option. Land Impact total may only be increased by submitting a ticket. This will result in a review of the request to see if it is feasible within the Land Impact limitations of the sim. Increases in land impact allocations will result in an increase to the rental price of the property.

6.1.2a Alternatively, the rental Kiosk at the Out of Character Landing area may be used to pay for rentals. Be sure you are paying for your correct rental before using this Kiosk!

6.1.2b Land Impact total may only be increased by submitting a ticket. This will result in a review of the request to see if it is feasible within the Land Impact limitations of the sim. Increases in land impact allocations will result in an increase to the rental price of the property.

6.1.2c Rental rates are in one-, two-, three-, or four-week increments.

6.1.3 Rental payments are processed solely through the CasperLet box system, not by administrators. Makunia Resident presently operates the rental system for Norune.

6.1.4 If the box malfunctions, renters must immediately notify an administrator via direct message or the server’s ticket system. https://discord.com/channels/1294478134166683648/1294980220595470398

6.14a Failure to notify staff promptly may result in loss of rental time & may not be recovered.

6.1.5 The system automatically sends a 1-day reminder before rental expiration. A second reminder is issued on the expiration date of the rental. A final reminder is given twenty-four (24) hours after expiration. Staff may attempt contact via other channels to attempt to reach the renter. If no response is received after a reasonable time which shall not exceed seven (7) days post-expiration, all items affecting land impact will be bulk returned to the owner. Norune staff are not responsible for any items broken or lost in the Second Life lost and found folder due to this process.

6.1.5a Tenants may choose to continue during that period, however they will need to pay back the time lost in the CasperLet system. (example: A tenant goes 6 days past due on rent and continues with 4 weeks of rental time, they will get 3 weeks + 1 day)

6.1.6 Fines may be imposed for recurring issues, to include:

6.1.6a Repeated non-payment leading to rental expiration.

6.1.6b Exceeding the allocated land impact.

6.1.6c Placing items outside the rented building/residence without prior administrator approval.

6.1.6d Subletting of the rental. Other players may reside within or utilize a rental, but a renter may not rent the structure out to another for cost or profit. Only the renting party may place objects within the rental. And only the renting party will be added to the land group. Renters are responsible to ensure their guests abide by the rental rules.

6.1.6e Not adhering to rental rules as detailed in this document and/or the rental agreement document provided through the CasperLet vendor.

6.2 Rental Refunds

6.2.1 No refunds are given for paid rental time, regardless of circumstances. Overdue rent must be repaid in full. If a renter is evicted due to non-payment, the due amount plus any assessed fines must be paid prior to renting again.

6.2.2 If a renter is evicted due to rule violations, no L$ (in-world currency) will be refunded. This extends as well to any nullification of the rental agreement between parties.

6.2.3 Nullification of the rental agreement due to rules violation or non-payment will typically result in a permanent rental ban. Appeals can be submitted via ticket for administrative review once every six (6) months.

6.3 In-Character Environment

6.3.1 All residential rentals are located within the In Character (IC) portions of the sim, this means all interior and décor of rentals must conform to the established medieval fantasy theme. For example, futuristic/sci-fi or modern props or décor that does not fit the theme will be considered a rules violation.

6.3.2 As these rentals are located within the In-Character portions of the sim, building outside the confines of the rental structure is prohibited. (Wall hangings or signs for IC purposes may be an exception.)

6.3.3 To respect the privacy of rental owners and avoid unnecessary disturbances, those entering a rental for In-Character (IC) purposes must obtain Out of Character (OOC) permission from the rental owner before entering.

6.3.4 As all rentals are located within the In-Character (IC) portions of the sim, renters are expected to keep any Out of Character (OOC) communication in these locales to a minimum when other players are in earshot to avoid disrupting on-going roleplay.

6.3.5 In-Character conversations within rentals are considered to be ‘private’ in regards due to thick walls and closed windows. Sharing information from these conversations from outside the dwelling without explicit authorization (Either all parties inside the home giving OOC consent, or a clearly posted statement that the window is open via roleplaying post from the one renting the property) could be considered as metagaming.

6.3.6 This section does not apply to market stall rentals in the Out of Character landing area. Limitations as shown below still apply.

6.4 Limitations

6.4.1 The use of security orbs or other scripted security features or systems is strictly prohibited within rentals.

6.4.2 Placement of objects which are deemed by Norune staff to generate too much lag in the sim or emit particles that extend beyond your rental’s exterior structure will result in a warning, followed by return of the object. Placing an object that has been returned for such a reason again may result in demerits as a violation of the griefing rules.

6.4.3 Factions may not rent structures to expand their base or to establish footholds in other locations beyond their assigned locales.

6.4.4 Appropriate music/instruments are allowed, however, they may constitute a ‘noise complaint’ and will be treated as a disturbance to be 1) warned and/or 2) demerits issued if they produce noise that plays too loudly or too far outside the rental property.

6.4.5 Rentals are “As Is” condition. As such, the following is prohibited:

6.4.5a Changing the easement/right-of-way or the infrastructure is prohibited. This is to include any objects/prims that interfere/obscure with traffic passing by the rental.

6.4.5b Changing the look or shape of the structure itself.

6.4.5c Placing objects outside of the structure or within any other structure not being rented by the player. If a player is unable to pick up items which violate these rules, the administrators may bulk-return all of a players items. A warning shall be given ahead of this action.

6.5 Renters are permitted to rent only one CasperLet Rentalbox at a time. This policy is in place because if you rent more than one CasperLet rental box, the prims are not accurately added up but are counted twice within the system. If you require additional rental space, please reach out to our Rental Management Ticketsystem on Discord for assistance.

7.    Factions, Guilds, & Groups

 7.1    Factions

7.1.1 Official Recognition – Factions are officially recognized by the sim and may be involved in Lore.

7.1.2 Landed by the sim Staff – Factions control a base of operations that is granted by the sim. Due to this grant, Factions are not permitted to use rental properties as holdings for the faction.

7.1.3 Staff Leadership – Faction Leaders are a part of the Norune Staff and expected to behave as such and participate in staff related activities when necessary. They may be expected to attempt to resolve issues between members of their own Factions before seeking a moderator, when possible.

7.1.4 Regional Power – A Faction /May/ be the regional power in an area. Current examples: Crimson Hoard controls Hexenmoor. The Church of Divine Luminance controls Nova Cerulle. Keepers of the Shifting Sands control Sabhaif. Examples of non-regional powers include Cult of the Black Dagger who operate within Nova Cerulle but do not have authority within the region, and Sapphire Dawn who operate from their ship off of the Forest’s Coast, but do not have authoritative control over the forest. For the purpose of this authority, that is the right to create IC laws for their controlled territory and exercise those laws Icly. (They are still expected to maintain a neutral OOC stance to players and adhere to all standards placed on Players and Staff of Norune)

7.2    Guilds

7.2.1 Official Recognition – Guilds are officially recognized by the sim and may be involved in Lore though to a lesser extent than a faction would be.

7.2.2 Unlanded – Guilds are not assigned holdings by the staff. They /may/ be allowed to use rental property in the sim as a base of operations, however, they may not have a rental base inside territory with a Faction they are in contention with. (Hoisting banners over a base of operations in Hexenmoor while openly challenging the Crimson Hoard is an invitation to have them destroy your Guild)

7.2.3 Player Leadership – Guild leaders are not automatically granted status as staff members of Norune. Though they may be expected to attempt to resolve issues between members of their own Guilds before seeking a moderator, when possible.

7.2.4 No regional authority – Guilds are subject to the local authority in the region they operate out of

7.3 Group

7.3.1 Unofficial – Groups are not officially recognized by the sim and therefore cannot be a part of the Lore.

7.3.2 Unlanded – Groups are not assigned holdings by the staff. They /may/ be allowed to use rental property in the sim as a base of operations, however, they may not have a rental base inside territory with a Faction they are in contention with. (Hoisting banners over a base of operations in Nova Cerulle while openly challenging the Church of Divine Luminance is an invitation to have them root out your group.)

7.3.3 Player Leadership – Group leaders are not granted status as staff members of Norune as anyone who wishes to lead a group and pulls together some participants can be one.

7.3.4 No regional authority – Groups are subject to the local authority in the region they operate out of.

  7.4    Storyteller (ST) Guild

7.4.1 A unique subset of Guild, ST Guilds are typically going to be temporary or NPC populated guilds operated by our Story Teller staff for the purposes of events. They have some unique traits.

7.4.2 Official – ST Guilds are official in Lore.

7.4.3 Landed by the sim Staff – ST Guilds may have temporary or permanent land-holdings depending on type. Event based ST Guilds will be temporary and may have a temporary base issued for the duration of that event. NPC based ST Guilds may in some cases have a permanent base, however as they are for driving story and narrative, they will be populated only with NPCs, not players.

7.4.4 Membership – NPC ST Guilds, as the name implies, are only populated with NPCs, Event ST Guilds may have player members for the duration of the event but Stories will involve their dismantling after the events. They may not retain permanent members while holding this status. Though with Admin approval, they may be formalized into regular Guilds.

7.4.5 Staff Leadership – ST Guilds are exclusively operated by Norune Staff, most commonly Story Tellers.
