REGISTERING YOUR HUD
This is a process all players need to follow before roleplaying in the sim. This is necessary in order to track your character inventories, and alt characters. In order to register with the HUD system you must do the following.
- Get the newest edition of the HUD from the OOC Hub.
- Unpack HUD from the box.
- Wear the HUD
- You will get a message in local chat as the following.
(Info): Your account has been created. Please go to…
- Click on the link “HUD Control Panel”
- This will take you to a website. In the upper right corner you will see your Second Life Legacy name. Click on it and go to “Settings”
- Set a password for your account. DO NOT USE YOUR SECOND LIFE PASSWORD.
CHARACTER CREATION ON HUD ENABLED.
Inworld on the HUD you will be prompted to set a character name. Follow the prompts on the hud to make your character.
Once this is done you are all set to start roleplaying.
CHARACTER CREATION ON HUD DISABLED.
You will need to go to the website, click on your name and go to “Create character”
Most websites who have this enabled will require you to make a character sheet that will require staff to approve of it.
Features
🔄 Automatic Character Switching via Attachments
The HUD supports automatic character switching by detecting special tags in attached items. This feature allows you to seamlessly switch to a specific character profile just by wearing an item.
🧷 How It Works:
- Every 60 seconds, the HUD automatically scans your worn attachments.
- On first run (or if the number of attachments changes), it checks each item’s Description field.
If it finds an item whose description starts with:
BBCHAR:<ProfileID>
- — it will immediately switch your HUD to the character with that Profile ID.
🛠 Example:
- Set the object description to: BBCHAR:5
- Attach it to your avatar.
- The HUD will detect it on the next scan and load Profile ID 5.
📋 Important Notes:
- Only one item should use the BBCHAR: tag at a time. If more than one is found, only the first match is used.
- The scan only happens again if your number of attachments changes (e.g., you wear or remove an item).
- If the HUD doesn’t switch:
- Try detaching and reattaching the item.
- Wait up to 60 seconds
This system helps streamline character roleplay by linking specific wearable items to character identities.
Troubleshooting
🧾 What Happens When You Wear the HUD
When you wear the HUD:
- It connects to the web and logs you in automatically using a one-time code.
- No typing needed — it just works.
- Once logged in, you’ll see your character info, quests, inventory, and more.
🧱 Q: I see a login page instead of my HUD panel
➡️ This means the auto-login code expired or failed.
Fix:
- Say @relog in command chat and give it 15 seconds.
- Detach and reattach the HUD to generate a new code.
- Or log in manually using your username and password.
💬 TIP: Say @help in local chat (on the HUD’s command channel).
It will give you a login link to access the main control panel.
Once logged in, click your name in the top right to set or change your password.
🌑 Q: I just see a black screen with a faint gray bar
➡️ This means your viewer’s built-in web browser is stuck.
Fix:
- Say @relog in command chat and give it 15 seconds.
- Open Preferences > Privacy > Media and clear the media cache.
- Relog into Second Life.
- Reattach the HUD.
⚠️ It may take several tries — the SL web browser is a bit buggy.
There’s nothing we can fix on our end — just keep smacking it until it works 😅
🔄 Q: The HUD is blank or not responding
Fix:
- Say @relog in command chat and give it 15 seconds.
- Detach the HUD.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Reattach it to refresh your session.
🌐 Q: I can’t see the HUD web panel at all and I see the following
Check these:
- Media is enabled in your SL viewer.
- You haven’t blocked the HUD’s media access.
- The HUD isn’t hidden behind other attachments.
To unblock media:
- Go to Me > Preferences > Privacy > Media
- Remove any blocked or muted sites.
