In the vast and immersive worlds of role-playing games (RPGs), factions play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative, driving conflict, and providing players with a sense of belonging. Factions are essentially organized groups within the game’s setting, each with their own distinct ideologies, goals, and motivations. They can range from powerful political entities and religious orders to secretive and nomadic tribes. Here are the factions from Norune:
Sapphire Dawn

Leader: Blue Pearl (foxfyre.ihnen)
Based out of: Norune Forest
The Sapphire Dawn was founded as a partnership between individuals who wished to expand their knowledge of the physical world around them and to try to utilize any beneficial discoveries they make to better life for all. In order to financially support their exploratory endeavors the group focuses much of their time and resources trading various dry goods and botanicals, using their seafaring vessel named the Coral. Many of the founding members of the Sapphire Dawn are healers and menders, and so coming to the aid of others in need has always been a core tenant of the group’s philosophy.
Keepers of the Shifting Sands

Leader: Hakama (Foxter Sideshow)
Based out of: Sabhaif Oasis
Welcome to Sh’ryi Bar Ankh of the Sabhaif Oasis. Hakama & Ati founded the school, the Sh’ryi Bar Ankh, to begin a monocratic caste where they would train …essentially slaves. The town grew up around the trade out of necessity and convenience as a stop for wary travelers’ mid journey through the desert. Many initially visiting, looked down on such a way of life—but the pair do not see it as a hardship for the khaadima or khaadim.
Named khaadima for female and khaadim for male, they are the lost survivors, the abandoned, the orphaned, and indeed the punished that become pupils to the school. They could wander up by happenstance upon the Sabhaif Oasis, be dropped off by passing caravans, or sent into exile by surrounding lands as punishment only to make their way here for survival. The two took it upon themselves to train them once an oath was taken: to become the epitome of servitude. Some came around thinking the school was no more than a brothel to be exploited. These visitors often looked at them as no more than slaves upon arrival but are quick to find out that servitude has more to it than bringing food or pouring wine.
Several have gone on to serve high dignitaries and shape politics with the subtle coaxing of whispers of wisdom, guile, and even the edge of a dagger. All of them abide by a code of etiquette and ethics befit a servant. In more royal or formal settings, this might be considered the butler or head of house servants. With such a setting and way of life came the risks of it, including those that would set themselves on a ‘righteous’ mission or one of pillaging. For this, there were the Oathsworn: guards that are celibate in duty and see to guarding the school in a single-minded manner. Impeding their duty or breaking laws within the Oasis would draw their ire with swift retribution to follow.
Crimson Hoard

Leader: Sechutan (Sechutan)
Based out of: Hexenmoor
With a realm ripe for the taking, the hoard offers those that seek conquest and domination over the lands and its population a place to thrive. As a member of the hoard you would see to the expansion of the factions influence upon the land and seeing that those that would dare oppose such are brought to heel. The Hoard offers plenty of opportunity within its ranks, whether that is learning forbidden arcane in the mages tower and using those skills to hex , curse and unleash their power upon foes. If it is physical skill and might that you wish to prove you can join in the armed guard of Hexenmoor, where keeping the safety of Hexenmoor’s citizens safe or putting the blade to any that would threaten or oppose the will of the Crimson Hoard is your duty.
The Blackdog Company

Leader: Claire Nikolaou (@Donkeberry on Discord. HerrDernicus on SL)
Based out of: Norune Forest
The Blackdogs are a chaotic neutral mercenary group with a general focus of bringing a wide and storied range of characters together under a cause of survival. The group plays on bickering internal comedy in an almost brotherly/sisterly way with not all members seeing eye to eye but united by their trust in the “Kap, Company and Coin.”
Players Interested should bare In mind that any IC arguments are to be petty squabbling and not OOC maliciousness this goes for inside and outside the group. Think of it like the cast of Battlefield: Bad Company. A group of unhinged/drunk/comedic/crazy characters from all walks of life from nobles to farmers, sane to insane that at a moments notice can quickly turn into a professional and trained band of soldiers.
You are not a hero nor the villain. Sometimes you rescue the village and other times you’ll burn it.
